At 11, while living in Sea Pines, Hilton Head, David earned his first job on a local boat in Harbor Town. His love for the water and boats grew as he continued to work as a mate and then Captain. He attended Massachusetts Maritime and then University of Georgia. He graduated with a degree in Finance, but never could leave the life on the water. David has been lucky enough to fish around the world. He has experience operating a wide range of vessels including commercial vessels, sail, motor yachts and sport fishing boats. He has worked with many boat lines through the years gaining knowledge of each along the way.
David founded Total Offshore Yacht Sales in 2006. He uses his exceptional knowledge of yachts and the boating industry to help his customers make informed decisions about their life on the water. Born in Alexandria, VA in 1983 and grew up in Gastonia, NC. Spent childhood boating and fishing on the inland lakes until High School. Started boating and offshore fishing out of N Myrtle Beach in 1999 during the summers.
Attended UNCW, class 2006 BS Business Administration. During the years in Wilmington really started going offshore, traveling as a mate on private sportfish boats, and learning fiberglass, paint, and electrical for boats. Fished everything from inshore trout tournaments to commercial Bluefin tuna during those college years.
After college moved back to Charlotte as Lead Marketing Manager for a Navy DoD contract for Higher Power Engineering. Finished the program top 3rd in the nation, received a Certificate of Recognition from the Department of the Navy, and was a published author of a white paper for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
I was a Sales Engineer/Manufacturer’s Sales Rep for many years with Southeast Power Components covering VA, NC, SC, and N FL. I grew the territory from $3mil to $4.5mil per year and was #1 in the country in sales for Taiyo Kogyo PCB.
After many years in electrical sales I decided it was time to change paths and work in the field I love, boating. Along with being the SC broker for Total Offshore Yacht Sales, I currently am the owner of Cooper Yacht Services in N Myrtle Beach, SC specializing in electronics installation and troubleshooting, electrical, painting, and management. Have fished and maintained the same 38’ Hatteras since 2004.
I currently live in the greater Myrtle Beach area with my GF Abbie and our 3 dogs, Toby, Jax, and Link. My free time is spent in the garage restoring older classic skiffs such as Whalers, Robalos, and Aquasports, watching basketball (go Duke and Charlotte Hornets) or football (go Panthers), or out on the Atlantic fishing.
I have fished from Ocean City, MD to Key West, FL and everywhere between and Costa Rica 3 times, sailed the BVI’s,and have covered the coast from Ocean City, MD to Orange Beach, AL on many deliveries on everything from a 34’ Luhrs to a 82’ Hatteras. Currently hold a USCG 50 Ton Masters CaptainsLicense.
My technical sales background allows me to bring a level of professionalism and understanding to the search or sale of your previous or next boat. I understand how owning a boat is a luxury that every facet of the process should be enjoyable.
